Classtrail is a product of Cybernaut Studio (Pty) Ltd, a South African company based in Johannesburg. This page explains what personal information we handle, why, and what your rights are under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).

Last updated: 6 November 2026

Classtrail is in development with founding schools, launching in 2027. This page covers this website, the interactive demo and our commitments for the product itself.

Who is responsible

For this website and for emails you send us, Cybernaut Studio (Pty) Ltd is the responsible party.

When a school uses Classtrail, the school is the responsible party for its learners', parents' and staff members' information. Cybernaut Studio acts as the school's operator: we process that information only on the school's instructions and under a written operator agreement.

Information Officer: Jean-Jacques Strydom, [email protected]

This website

  • This website has no forms and no accounts. If you email us, we receive your name, email address and whatever you choose to include. We use it only to reply to you and to keep a record of our conversation.
  • The website is served through Cloudflare's global network, which handles basic technical information such as IP addresses to deliver pages and protect the site from attacks.
  • We measure visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which doesn't use cookies and doesn't build a profile of you. We only use Google Analytics if you accept it in the cookie banner. If you accept, Google Analytics receives information about how you use the site, such as pages visited and the type of device, and Google may process this outside South Africa. You can change your choice at any time from the Cookie settings link in the footer.

The interactive demo

The demo runs entirely in your browser and uses fictional data. Nothing you type or click in the demo is sent to us or stored on our servers. Reloading or resetting the demo clears it.

Learner and school information (once Classtrail launches)

These are the commitments Classtrail is being built around:

  • Learner records are stored on servers in South Africa (Johannesburg), with off-site backups in another South African city.
  • Each school's records are kept apart by strict access controls, and every school decides who can see what through role-based permissions.
  • Parent or guardian consent for processing children's information is recorded in the system, as POPIA requires for children's personal information.
  • An audit log records who viewed or changed sensitive information.
  • Schools set how long information is kept. When a school leaves Classtrail, its account becomes read-only for one month, the school receives a full export, and its information is then deleted, with notice.
  • We never sell personal information and never use learners' information for advertising.
  • Optional AI features (AI Tutor and AI marking) only send the question, the relevant lesson or marking memo, and the learner's answer to the AI provider. Names, ID numbers, marks and contact details are not sent, and names or numbers typed into a question are removed before sending. AI features are off unless the school turns them on, and parents give separate consent.
  • Some services, such as email and WhatsApp notifications or the AI provider, may be based outside South Africa. Before launch we will publish the full list of service providers, what each receives and where, and we will only use them with the safeguards POPIA requires.

Your rights

You may ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it, by emailing [email protected]. If your information is held by a school that uses Classtrail, please contact the school first; we will help them respond.

If you are not satisfied with how we handle your request, you may complain to the Information Regulator: https://inforegulator.org.za
